At the hearing held at the 35th Court of Criminal Assize in Istanbul Justice Palace, the prosecutor announced his opinion on the merits.

The prosecutor asked Amnesty International Honorary President Taner Kılıç to be punished for “membership in a terror group”; Günal Kurşun, İdil Eser, Özlem Dalkıran, Nejat Taştan, and Veli Acu for “aiding a terror group without being a member “.

The prosecutor asked for the acquittal of Peter Frank Steudtner, Ali Gharavi, Ilknur Ustun, Nalan Erkem and Muhammad Seyhmus Ozbekli, since there was no convincing evidence that they had committed the crime of aiding a terror group.

"After months in jail and years before the courts, the prosecution has failed to present any credible evidence to substantiate the absurd charges," Kumi Naidoo, Amnesty's secretary general, said in a statement.
