EXPRESSION INTERRUPTED
Turkey's Constitutional Court on 29 September delayed its planned review of jailed businessperson and civil society figure Osman Kavala's application as the prosecutor conducting the latest investigation against Kavala issued an indictment at the last minute.
Details of the indictment were not available as of Tuesday afternoon, but the document was sent to the 36th High Criminal Court of Istanbul, news reports said. The Constitutional Court's First Section had announced earlier that they would review Kavala's latest application on 29 September, just as the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe was set to examine the measures taken in Kavala's case during its regular meeting taking place this week.
At its previous meeting earlier this month, the Committee of Ministers, which is in charge of supervising the implementation of European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) judgments, had urged Turkey to immediately release Kavala, who has been in detention on remand since 2017.
