The ECPMF’s Journalists-in-Residence Programme

The ECPMF's Journalists-in-Residence (JiR) programme is  a temporary shelter for journalists who face harassment and intimidation as a direct result of their work. Programme provides safe and discreet place to continue investigating and publishing, to rest and to recover (max. 6 months), rent-free, furnished apartment in Leipzig, health insurance and psychological support, monthly grant of 1,000 euros, travel expenses to and from Leipzig, participation in journalism-related trainings and networking opportunities.

National Endowment for Democracy - Reagan/Fascell Democracy Fellows Program

Offers an opportunity to spend five months in residence at the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), in Washington, D.C., in order to undertake independent research on democracy in a particular country or region. The application for the 2021-2022 period is now open. The deadline for submitting an application is October 15, 2020.

The Assistance Desk of Reporters Without Borders (RSF)

Provides financial and administrative support: legal and medical fees; find safe refuge (safe relocation); asylum process support for journalists who are victims of reprisals because of their reporting.

Rory Peck Trust: Assistance Grants

Freelance Journalists' and their family members' financial costs including medical and rehabilitation costs, emergency subsistence, legal advice, and relocation costs are covered.

International Federation of Journalists: Safety Fund

The Foundation provides ad hoc solidarity funds. Funds can be used for legal advice or defence of prosecuted or jailed journalist/media staff.

Also provide immediate humanitarian assistance for journalists or families of journalists and media staff whose "bread-winner" has been jailed or prosecuted.

Medical fees for jailed/prosecuted journalists or a family member.

Recently, they started one for journalists in Turkey.
