The rectorate of Boğaziçi University (BOUN) on July 16 terminated the employment of academic Can Candan for the third time despite two court rulings in favor of his reinstatement. The rector was appointed by the president and deemed as an illegitimate "trustee" by the university's constituents.

According to recent data from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union (EU), Turkey has a higher police force ratio compared to the EU average.

The data reveals that in 2021, there were 568 police officers for every 100,000 people in Turkey, while the average ratio in the EU stood at 335 officers per 100,000 people.

In the case of the Gezi Park protests of 2013, the Prosecutor's Office of the Court of Cassation has delivered an opinion for upholding the imprisonment sentences against the six others who are imprisoned and standing trial, but for the reversal of the sentence against Mücella Yapıcı.

The hosting programme in France provides for an accommodation near Paris, the payment of a monthly grant to cover daily needs, personalised support, and networking with Human Rights Defenders for a period of 6 months. 

After the 6 months, participants no longer benefit from the grant, the accommodation and the support provided in the programme.

Boğaziçi University’s trustee management has announced that the university will not hold a collective graduation ceremony this year, as has been the case for 2021 and 2022.

In an e-mail sent to students, the university said that departments will hold their diploma award ceremonies separately between July 5-7 in different salons.
